Cookie Policy
How cookies help this site work.
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Some keep you signed in; others measure how people use a page. This page explains every category we use, so you can decide for yourself.
The categories we use
| Name | Category | Purpose | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|---|
__session, __client_uat | Essential | Keeps you signed in and protects against session fixation | Clerk |
createonline-cv-draft | Essential (local storage) | Holds an unsaved CV draft in your browser so work is not lost | CreateOnline CV |
co-consent | Essential (local storage) | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again | CreateOnline CV |
_ga, _gid | Analytics | Counts page views and tells us which guides are useful | Google Analytics |
IDE, test_cookie, DSID | Advertising | Delivers, limits and measures ads; detects fraud and repeated invalid clicks | Google AdSense |
__gads | Advertising | Remembers advertising interactions across sites | Google AdSense |
_gcl_au | Advertising | Stores a conversion tag value so ad clicks can be attributed | Google AdSense |
Cookie names change when a provider updates their stack, so treat this table as a description of categories rather than an exhaustive list.
Advertising cookies in plain English
Google AdSense is how the site stays free. Google and its partners set cookies to choose which ads to show you, to limit how many times you see the same advertiser, and to report whether an ad led to a visit. Ads are chosen from your activity on this and other sites — andnever from the content of your CV, which we never share for targeting.
Opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or for many providers at aboutads.info. Google publishes how it handles data in the partner sites policies.
European consent
For visitors in the UK and EEA, personalised advertising cookies are only set after you accept them in our cookie banner. Choosing “Essential only” keeps sign-in and the CV editor working while advertising stays non-personalised. You can change your answer at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
How to control cookies yourself
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings — every major browser has this built in.
- Use a private or incognito window for a session with no stored cookies.
- Install an ad or tracker blocker. The editor and your CV work perfectly well without ads.
- Opt out via the links in the advertising section above.
Blocking cookies may stop you signing in or saving a CV to your account, because the session cookie and your local draft are essential. Nothing else on the site depends on them.
Do Not Track
Browser “Do Not Track” signals are not standardised and we do not treat them as a legally binding opt-out. The reliable way to opt out of personalised advertising is the Google and aboutads.info links above.
